Heavy Metals – guidelines

Heavy metals – have no biological use but have a polluting effect  on both human beings  and the environment. Heavy metals like mercury, cadmium and lead are very serious pollutants from environmental point of view.  which cannot be broken down or eliminated from nature.

Many  chemical compounds made from these heavy metals  are banned by the Icelandic Umhverfisstofnun, both in general and as components of certain commercial items. We, at Nature.is on the other hand, believe that the use of heavy metals should be curtailed completely, if possible. The consumer also has a right to know if an item he buys contains those metals. Therefore we demand that all producers and sellers account for whether their products contain such dangerous chemicals, what type of metallic compound they contain and the amount.

As an example of several common heavy metals that should be mentioned  is lead, cadmium, mercury and chrome. Just as with synthetic chemicals,  heavy metals such as these can bioaccumulate in nature and cause diseases like cancer.
