Sniffy - Nature's Search Engine

Sniffy is one of the symbols of Nature.is. Sniffy is a sign for our search engine, he tracks down what you are searching for, whether it is a concept, a company or a product. Try entering what you are searching for here by Sniffy to the right on the page and then press Search.

On Nature's Market we have developed a new search function for the product search, which narrows the search further down enabling you to find not only a product but also a producer, label and certification. View here to the right under Search in Nature's Market.

You can also go directly to the Green Pages and search the groups or you can enter what you are searching for. If you only know the first letter of what you are searching for you can use the alphabetical search.

TheGreen Map is another way to search our web. You click on the Green Mapand then you see the three main groups; blue for Sustainable living, green for the Nature and orange for Culture & Society.

If you do not find something you are looking for, please write a letter to our Sniffy at nature@nature.is and he will help you find what you are looking for.

Nature's Market

NáttúrumarkaðurNature’s online shopping center

One of Nature's main goals is to provide consumers with an independent marketplace where they can find conformed information on various environment-friendly and health products. There they can make an informed choice based on the comparison of indisputable evidence about certificates, origins, the product origin, purity, composition and the disposal of contents and packaging.

Nature operates an online shopping center and provides sellers with two possibilities to link their products to guidelines and content-information:

One way is to register products and wherever they are sold, and the other way is to register them and sell directly from Nature’s Market. In this way the products will link to more detailed information about their contents, environmental guidelines and how to dispose of them to name a few possibilities. Nature’s Market provides full service to both small and large scale sellers, to provide a healthy competitive environment just like on a large “natural market.” Consumers are free to surf/stroll around the market and compare the different products without fear of one seller being favored above others in registration.

See directions on how to shop on Nature’s Market.

See our conditions and returns policy.

Send inquires or requests for registration on nature@nature.is or phone us at +354 483 1500

Green Maps of Nature

Green Map Iceland is a joint international project of Nature.is the Green Map® System project, and the University of Iceland. Green Map Iceland and Green Map Reykjavík are based on the Green Map® universal icon system, and Nature's extensive research work (over a period of 5 years) and registration of various sources on Green Pages, a massive database of eco-friendly information on Icelandic business and tourism.

The map is published in Icelandic on Natturan.is, in English on Nature.is and in German on Natur.is, along with the enormous amount of information already displayed on the site. Registration is available to anyone whose operation has been certified by acknowledged authorities or fulfills other demands set by the Green Map® System, as we are commited to avoid practicing greenwashing of any kind.

The map’s purpose is to point out the many eco-friendly opportunities available throughout the country and to encourage people to support companies who act in a responsible way towards the environment.

To apply for registration on the Green Map please contact nature@nature.is. Basic registration is free of charge!

The Recycle Map

The Recycle MapWaste recycling is one of the most important ways to diminish the onslaught of the Earth´s resources and should be an accepted component of every company and household. Around 1/7 th of the world‘s waste produced comes from households with the rest  from all the companies. Recycling heightens our awareness of how, without recycling, so much valuable material would otherwise be wasted. Furthermore by recycling we ensure that dangerous chemicals will receive the proper treatment diminishing their detrimental impact on the environment. Besides assuring less waste production, recycling makes people more conscious in general about their responsibility towards the environment. It is, of course, most sensible to choose  natural chemicals rather than synthetic ones and less packaging. Everything that can be recycled should be sorted as such, still, some waste is unavoidable in a modern society.

In order to simplify recycling and encourage people to partake in limiting the amount of unsorted waste that goes into the houshold waste bin, Nature.is has designed the Recyce Map. The map gives you a good, comprehensive picture of recyling opportunities in Iceland, showing you where the nearest recycle containers and recycling service locations are. It also informs you of which waste categories are accepted at each service location. The whole Reykjavík area, along with South Iceland, Eastern Iceland, Northern Iceland have already been mapped and while we have not yet received answers to all our inquiries, municpalities have been contacted and information is being collected about almost every single site all around Iceland so the Recycling Map can be of use to everyone, everywhere, always.

Examine the Recyce Map.

If you want more info, want to make comments or work on the map, please write to us at nature@nature.is or phone us via telephone: 354 483 1500.

Nature's Green Pages

Nature.is views it as a duty towards the Icelandic community to maintain and develop “green pages” in the highest standards of quality. The green pages are thus to provide detailed information on the various companies and institutions connected to the environment one way or the other. The green pages link guidelines and labels to the companies and products, and that way they provide the general consumer with the opportunity to make an informed choice when deciding where to shop. The green pages play an important role in nature.is goals:

  • To develop technical solutions regarding a community network which is able to link together factors which otherwise would only relate in an insubstantial or indirect way.
  • To promote Icelandic nature and its natural products on an international venue
  • To promote related industry and employment around the country on every level
  • To promote among the general public a more environmentally conscious way of life

The green pages provide information on companies and institutions that either comply with the following conditions or operate in the following fields:

  • Meet the standards of various third party environment certificates for their production or operation
  • Are the sellers of certified products
  • Have an official environmental policy
  • Use green bookkeeping
  • Institutions that hold surveillance and/or estimation authority
  • Are in the process of being granted certificates
  • Sell environmentally certified products
  • Provide services related to nature and/or the environment
  • Operate a self sustaining operation
  • Are the producers/importers of natural and/or health products

Registration on the green pages is free of charge. Additional information to the registration can be added for a slight annual registration fee. Certificates and other additional information are required to be based on the demands and conditions of certain associations and must be indisputable. Nature.is reserves the right to inquire on the legitimacy of any information within a registration, with the help of relevant associations.

To inquire if your company is already listed on the green pages, or to see whether or not some you believe should be there, simply use the search engine to the right of the page or go directly ito the green pages and search under the relevant category. If you have any suggestions or remarks concerning any listing on the green pages, or if you want to change your own for some reason, then please contact us and we will seek to improve the listing. Any suggestion is appreciated, as it is impossible to maintain such a site without the assistance of everyone involved.

Send any questions or suggestions to nature@nature.is or call the number+354 483 1500
