Any school can apply for the program and after a period of participation, it is evaluated. Successful schools are awarded with the Eco-Schools Green Flag. The Icelandic Environment Association (Landvernd) manages the program in Iceland as part of the International Eco-School Program that is owned and run by the independent non-profit organization, Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE)
