According to information a clearance has begun in Skaftá and the flow at Sveinstindur 280 m3/sek this morning [aug. 10th 2008]. People are adviced to avoid being close to the source due to sulphur gas contamination. The source of the river is from Skaftárjökull in Vatnajökull east of Langisjór. If the clearance grows the river might flow over the road west of Hólaskjól close to Eldgjá. The progress in monitored by specialists.
