Birds
The small birds are not only pleasant companions in the garden. They also serve a certain function in the garden ecosystem. They eat worms and insects and also sometimes the berries that you wanted to use to make jam. You can rescue your berries simply by putting a net over the bushes when the berries are becoming ripe. To entice birds to the garden is definitely good for the garden, for you and for the birds.
A small birdhouse on a pole or in the tree can save the lives of the snow buntings during the winter. You have to be careful when you feed the birds. It is best to use a well mixed blend of seeds (especially designed for birds), fruit or fat. There has been a misunderstanding that oat flakes are not good for birds. They are if there is a little olive oil on the flakes in the frost.
The Icelandic Society of Birds has given courses and published booklets on bird feeding during the winter, and they know a lot about which trees and bushes are bird-friendly and can provide shelter, a place for nesting and/or provide food for the birds.
