The American architect, designer and co-author of the book From Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things, William McDonough is giving a lecture on Green Days at the University of Iceland. McDonough has earned many awards in his field, and has worked with Nike, Ford and NASA among others on projects which have implemented his concept in order to help companies decrease and completely do away with the negative environmental impact of their operations.

McDonough is 61 years old, born in Tokyo and a 1976 Yale graduate. McDonough's career has focused on designing environmentally sustainable buildings and transforming industrial manufacturing processes. He has been the receiver of many recognitions and awards for his ideas and work, including the Presidential Award for Sustainable Development in 1996.

Through the years McDonough has collaborated with companies, institutions and nations where his ideas have been implemented in order to decrease and completely do away with the negative environmental impact of their operations. Among those have been Nike, Ford and NASA and he has also assisted the Chinese Authoritities with the design of sustainable cities in China.

McDonough‘s ideology has been described as the next industrial revolution, where emphasis is put on minimum and even no negative impacts on the environment and nature. His cradle to cradle concept involves the idea that all material that is used in manufacturing, product design and construction can be completely recycled at the end of its lifetime and none of it ends up as waste for example in landfills.

McDonough‘s lecture will take place, through remote assistance, on Tuesday the 19th of March at 17:00 in room 105 at Háskólatorg.

Along with McDonough‘s lecture, there will be various other lectures, movie screenings, a clothes swap, music and more on Green Days. The Green Days at the University of Iceland take place from 18th-22nd of March and the opening ceremony will be at Háskólatorg on Monday the 18th of March at 12:00 pm.

It is Gaia, the students association of Environmental and Natural Resources Studies that organizes the Green Days and has done so since 2008. The lecture with William Mcdonough is a great recognition for the Green Days and Gaia very proud to have him speak at the Green Days.

You can follow and access the programme of Green Days on Facebook.
