Paulo Bessa – on permaculture
Paulo Bessa is a permacultureist with heart and soul and will be contributing to Nature.is with articles and tips on cultivation and other interesting subjects. His articles appear under Permaculture.
Paulo introduces himself as follows:
I was born 1981 in Portugal, since a kid I developed a passion for nature, like watching the stars with my telescope, or growing flowers and trees in my parents house.
When I was 17, I went on studying Biology in University, and done my final thesis in Netherlands. Afterwards got a PhD in Medicine, and lived for 3 years in Vienna, Austria. At this time, I wanted to change my career, and became interested in many diferent topics like theatre, philosophy, astrology and spirituality, volunteering, environmental matters and ecology, community living and permaculture.
In 2010, after falling in love with Iceland on hollidays, I came here to work on environmental education at SEEDS. Since 2011 I live in Sólheimar in Iceland, together with my partner Pami. I like to grow most of our food and rare plants, and she loves to cook and use medicinal herbs! I worked as a soap-maker, making natural cosmetics, of course gardening is a big part of my life, as well as hiking (I love volcanoes!)
I have dreams about more sense of self-sufficiency and local community for our society, and believe in living in a society that does not involve money. Maybe I am a fool! Above all, I love nature.
