Infrastructure and Roads
Transport via shipping, trucks and planes creates a lot of pollution. Therefore it is better for the environment to buy goods that do not have to be transported over huge distances.
An Example: Transporting fruit from New Zealand to Iceland via air releases around five times the weight of the fruit in carbon dioxide. Transport by ship also releases a great deal of CO2 and besides many ships release some oil into the ocean. It is therefore most environmentally friendly to buy those products that are produced inside one’s own country, especially if they are also organically grown.
