About 20% of an average home’s energy use goes into lighting. By replacing normal light bulbs with energy saving ones, switching off the light when it’s not needed and painting the home light colors, its possible to reduce the energy use considerably. Energy saving bulbs will use only 1/4 of the energy that normal bulbs use for the same amount of illumination. If every normal bulb in Icelandic homes were replaced with an energy saving bulb we can close a power plant producing 20 MW.
